Kira Takuto had a rough life as a child. His father disappeared and it is unclear if he left the family, or just died altogether. All that he had left of a family was his mother. Until on an unfortunate day, at age nine in his life Takuto’s mother passed away from an illness. This left Takuto as an orphan, and without a mother’s love. He was all alone and nothing could change that…could it?

Flash forward three years and one faithful day in a park, 12 year old Takuto met two people that would change his life, Koga Aoi and Wakouji Keiichi. All it took was a simple question from Aoi “Would you like to be in a band?” and ROUTE: L was born. It was unknown if Aoi even heard what Takuto’s vocals sounded like. Nether the less, ROUTE: L soon became a smash band. Takuto’s voice haven’t broken, yet, he was a vocal genius. Finally he belonged to a family; Keiichi treated him like a brother and Aoi and Hazuki were like his parents. No matter what tours he went on, or recording sessions he went to, Takuto was happy. Singing and being with the gang made him fortunate and content.

Soon came the news from Aoi, he was going to marry Hazuki and have a child. This practically came out of the blue and started Takuto. “This crazy man is getting married? He thinks the baby is CUTE?! He doesn’t even know that yet!!!” Aoi even bragged this to the news, because of his idiocy. This was too much, even for Takuto. Aoi even planned a photo shoot of the band, including Hanakazari Yuina who was a loyal fan of Ouji. Before the actual shoot, Aoi asked Takuto a question, this question startled him “Takuto? Could you name the baby for me?” He was flustered and nervous “ME?! WHY?!!!” Aoi still kept going on anyway, saying it was going to be a girl when he didn’t even know himself. He also wanted Takuto to make a name matching Hazuki by having the ending kanji as “Tsuki”. Takuto went along with it anyway, not knowing anything. Then at that moment Takuto realized the perfect name “Tsuki….Mitsuki…..” Aoi had a feeling that Takuto wanted to probably name his own kid that someday but he let Aoi have the name instead. Takuto was thanked, and Mitsuki, was soon to be born.

Then, life took a turn of the unexpected when Takuto reached 14 years of age. On May 12th, Hazuki went into labor and was rushed to the hospital. Aoi anxiously followed but everything went wrong, he got into a car accident. When the words left Keiichi’s lips and reached Takuto’s ears, he was devastated. Aoi and Hazuki were dead and there was no way they would ever come back. It was probable that Hazuki died while she had Mitsuki, but nether the less, the baby was born alive. Aoi on the other hand died in that car accident and the image of him dead burned into Takuto’s mind forever. At that point, ROUTE: L was officially buried six feet under. Keiichi moved on to become a doctor and after three years, Takuto finally re-debuted as a solo singer at the age of 17.

His solo stage wasn’t as great as ROUTE: L but he was still very successful. He still enjoyed his passion and was able to make a good living. Around the age of 21, he went to the orphanage Mitsuki and Eichi were staying at with Keiichi at his side. When Mitsuki ran over to get the ball coming their way, Takuto kicked it away. To test the girl he asked “Hey shorty! Where’s your Mom and Dad?” She simply replied “H-Heaven, the teacher told me that they died.” Still not satisfied he continued to ask “Do you like your Mom and Dad? Even though you haven’t met them you like them?” The girl smiled and replied “My Daddy was a singer and my Mommy liked singing too…I love singing! So I was very very happy…that my Mommy and Daddy loved singing too!” Takuto was finally satisfied and promised to protect the girl with all of his strength.

Another year past and he met was thought to be the love of his life, Hayashi Hikari, a famous model. To cover up his feelings, he claimed he was her fan and she boasted it to her workmates. Embarrassed he listened to what she had to say “Hey, let’s leave this party and go someplace…Lets disappear just the two of us. Let’s have people talk about us.” Reluctantly, he did and he let passion get in the way. Slowly though, he was figuring out the true dangers of Hikari and what the relationship really was, toying around and using him for her own popularity and personal gain. He still went along with the relationship but he learned something about himself, he was developing Sarcoma in his throat.

This devastated him because he may never be able to sing again. His one passion, his only hope…could be taken away in a heart beat. Soon afterwards, he struggled to survive with the cancer, have a “one-sided” relationship and sing. His hair even got longer so he would now; put it back into a ponytail. At the age of 24, he couldn’t take the relationship he had with Hikari anymore. He was going to break up with her, but the cancer got in the way. It was too fatal so Keiichi forced him into the surgery, even though Takuto didn’t want it.

The surgery saved Takuto’s life which was a positive. The negative was he lost his voice. Takuto couldn’t take the fact of it and decided to take the choice of death; but not the regular sort, he resorted to suicide. Ignoring the persistent calls from Keiichi, he slid off the hospital building and tried to escape the unfamiliar noise of life. When he woke up, he wasn’t where he wanted to be.
Takuto Kira had just become a Shinigami. He was told by his boss that he was in a twisted maze of eternal punishment and that there was no hope or light to guide him. His name was reversed but he still managed to keep his first name the same. His first task was to collect the soul of a 14 year old boy who died in a plane crash. This boy happened to be Sakurai Eichi, Mitsuki’s childhood friend/lover. Eichi left Takuto scarred with a curse and these words “Are you…a Shinigami? I’m sorry…but I can’t give you my soul. Only one girl…can take or release my soul.” Takuto failed that mission as a Shinigami but the words still rang in his ears. He didn’t understand what they meant…until he re met Kouyama Mitsuki in his second job, as Negi Ramen with Meroko as his partner. (If you want to see the past he had with Meroko as Negi Ramen, see that section for more details)
