Why TakutoxMeroko?

Spoiler action ahead! You might not understand this analysis unless you have read the whole series.


++Negi Ramen's appeal++
Negi Ramen stands out from the other ships in obvious ways, as well as unobvious ones. When you first see them together, You already can see that physically, they look splendid together. Their intro in volume one showed that they are very in sync, and give all of the poses that they do with each other, its clear they can read each other quite well. Its also [in my opinion],the only innocent and pure ship in the series. Mitsuki tattered her relationship with Eichi with Takuto, and Takuto was just a rebound by [as was Izumi]. Meroko fellin love with Takuto for who he really is, and Takuto cares for Meroko a lot more than he lets on. He always tells her he cannot leave her alone. I think that's enough to say that she at least means something to him. They way this couple plays out is very interesting,because like many real relationships,its its hot and cold moments,and in the end is utterly destroyed by fate.


++It all began...++
Negi Ramen is a pretty automatic thing. Only 11 pages onto the series, and the two drop into Mitsuki's life and give their cute little Negi Ramen pose. Meroko's obvious clinging to Takuto also appears very quickly,and in the beginning of the manga, its all that really shapes her character. She is always watching Mitsuki to make sure she isn't getting to close to her beloved partner. Many people are turned off by this,as Meroko plays the stereotypical clingy girl love rival in this place. Takuto wants nothing to do with her affection and brushes her off all the time.


++Crap... Problems...++
It turns out in the middle of volume one, Takuto develops a crush on Mitsuki, the main character. This will forever ruin Negi Ramen's relationship s both friends and possible lovers. With Mitsuki around,Takuto pays very little attention to Meroko, and she starts to get jealous. She calls in problem number two: her ex partner Izumi to fix this and get Takuto's mind back on track. She is crying when she does this.
Later: Izumi is a very lusty flirt, and after coming on to Mistuki, he drops her and goes back for Meroko.


++Izumi/Takuto History with Meroko++
Originally, Meroko had a schoolgirl crush on Izumi, but in the end,he not only rejected her, she was sent to a new partner..Takuto. I do not believe Meroko liked Takuto at all at first. I am guessing that she blamed him somehow for taking her away from Izumi. He was a new Shinigami, and her job was to teach him their ways. Somehow, she ended up falling for him. Around the end of the manga, she claims that Takuto was just her rebound boy for Izumi to Takuto's face, but mentally takes this back. MeruMeiku shippers claim that she indeed had no feelings for Takuto, but after all she went through for him,I beg to differ.


++Izumi Cutting in++
Starting Volume four, Izumi gets very serious about cutting in to Meroko's love life. He kisses her, but instead of kissing back, she blows the shit out of him with her magic [This is the first act of physical violence we have seen her performed not regret. Its only the second time she's hurt someone]

++How it all ends++ Meroko randomly decides she loves Izumi and lives with him. Takuto wakes up from a coma and Mitsuki randomly decides she loves him. Crappy eh?
